You can now get Doug Henwood's Wall Street for free. Daniel, a.k.a. "D-Squared" discusses the book's merits. I heartily concur with suggestions to hit Doug's tipjar.
This is one of the best progressive critiques of mainstream economic thought and institutions around. I also like his After the New Economy, which is still in print. People periodically ask me about what to read that is left and non-technical, and both of these fill the bill.
