If you build it, will they come?
In a word: no.
If you need help with Web site marketing, we can help.
We warn you though: we don't believe in gimmicks. Quite frankly, we think most of what you read about search engine optimization and Internet marketing is drivel. You'd be better off lighting your money on fire and letting it go up in smoke. As least you can roast some marshmallows over the flames. Now that's a return on investment!
Web site marketing is about good old-fashioned hard work and a liberal sprinkling of traditional print, radio, and television advertising thrown in. Not even on the Internet can you build it and they will come.
You start with a professional, well-designed (shameless plug), standards-compliant Web site. You need to provide great content, good products, and good services. Then, you need to market, advertise, sell — and maintain, maintain, maintain. Even then, high search engine rankings don't always translate into sales.
We don't claim to have the most highly-ranked site on the Web. We don't have high search engine rankings, not yet anyway. But, we did get picked up by the search engines within a week of being online.
We didn't advertise. We didn't submit the site to search engines or free-for-all directories. We didn't pay anyone a fee to get our site listed.
Most search engine optimization companies tell you that it can take weeks to get picked up by the search engines. Not true. It can be done — with forethought and a good strategy.
Sweat Equity
Is it cheap? No. But, it can be done with your own hard work. It's free, in so far as you don't have to spend any money. But, it's not cheap, because this approach will cost you time.
Investing your time and talent in your Web site is a form of sweat equity. Just as you invest in a house and add to its value with sweat equity, you can do the same with your virtual property. Or, you can hire others to show you how or help when you don't have the expertise, just as you hire a carpenter to craft built-in bookshelves.
We can't and won't guarantee results.
We can't guarantee it will work for every Web site. Search engines are constantly changing their ranking and indexing strategies, just to stay ahead of the more unscrupulous search engine optimization (SEO), um, firms. Plus, search engines are bound to change their methodologies. They have to in order to improve search results for their users.
So, what are we selling, you ask? What we can offer you is this: You can hire us for an hour's consultation, and we'll tell you what we know about building Web sites that search engines — and more importantly, people — love. If you like what you hear, we can do the requisite research and get you started. Or, you can do the research yourself and take it from there.
Fair enough? If so, give us a call or e-mail us.
